Responsibilities

M&J Engineering is seeking experienced personnel for the position of Highway Construction Inspector. This position is a field related position with respect to NYSTDOT construction projects. 

 

Responsibilities consist of monitoring and observing construction activities and completed work for conformance to the contract documents, communication the contractor, perform the minimum testing requirements to ensure that materials used conform to specifications; verify that construction activities comply with the contract requirements, specifications, and engineering principles.

 

The Construction Inspector will also communicate project-related data with clients, colleagues, and other applicable representatives to clarify project details regarding the interpretation of plans, specifications, and any special provisions, will track and record the quantities of materials received or used, complete daily reports, maintain daily construction and inspection logs as required, along with applicable progress reports.

 

The Construction Inspector will also be responsible for maintaining construction safety practices and performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Category: Construction Inspector for NYSDOT projects

    Location: Hudson Valley, New York

  • Requires a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; NYSDOT or other DOT experience is desired, and must possess HS Diploma or equivalent and maintain one of the following licenses/certifications: Valid NICET Level II or higher Certification in Transportation/Highway Construction preferred but not required
  • AS degree or higher in Engineering or Sciences preferred but not required
  • Ability to perform quantity computations and to read and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Understand the fundamentals of necessary inspection codes and requirements to carry out testing and must be detail oriented.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Requires a valid, clean driver’s license and personal vehicle to travel to and within project sites for site inspections.
