M&J Engineering is a leader in construction management and inspection, ITS, mechanical, electrical, wastewater, water supply, tunnel airport, port, marine/coastal, environmental engineering, and design-build services for both new infrastructure projects and renovations.

 

We are seeking a Senior Field Catenary Engineer to perform field engineering tasks of complex catenary systems for high-impact rail infrastructure projects. This role is critical to ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of overhead contact systems across the rail network. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strategic oversight, and a collaborative mindset for quality implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight for the installation of catenary systems, ensuring alignment with agency standards and project objectives.
  • Apply advanced catenary calculations to real-world applications and mentor junior engineers in best practices.
  • Oversee and evaluate subcontractor field installation work, ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Coordinate field conditions with design documentation, resolving discrepancies and optimizing constructability.
  • Represent the project in meetings with Design-Build (DB) staff and stakeholders, providing expert guidance and updates.
  • Supervise inspection staff during night and weekend shifts as needed to support field operations.
  • Review and approve design unit packages, staffing plans, and resource allocations across project phases.
  • Manage material certifications, technical submittals, and ensure strict adherence to specifications and agency requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering, or demonstrated equivalency of education and experience.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience with Amtrak or equivalent in the Transit industry.
  • Field experience in large-scale rail or transit infrastructure projects.

Preferred Experience:

  • In-depth knowledge of Design-Build project delivery.
  • Familiarity with Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor standards and operations.
  • Prior employment with or retirement from Amtrak is highly desirable.
  • Completion of CSX and Amtrak track safety training.

Salary Range: $120,000-$150,000
