The Scheduler- Major Outages, WMATA, is a high-impact role is all about orchestrating complex rail outages and major capital projects through expert scheduling, cross-team coordination, and strategic planning. You'll develop and manage detailed coordination schedules, monitor key milestones, align multiple RSA events, and prepare critical materials for executive briefings and weekly planning sessions. Ideal for a strong communicator and planner, this position offers a unique opportunity to support system-wide initiatives and ensure WMATA’s capital delivery projects run smoothly, efficiently, and on time.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed coordination schedules for major outages, including monitoring key pre-outage milestones, and coordinate other Department of Capital Delivery (CAPD) projects with multiple RSA events;
  • Coordinate across multiple work groups;
  • Report on progress against plan on weekly, monthly and quarterly basis;
  • Prepare materials for major outages and other major CAPD projects related to weekly WWPL Work Coordination and RSA;
  • Support meetings, including preparing meeting notes;
  • Obtain receipt and review requests for RSA events from major CAPD projects and other major outages including scopes of work and distribute to relevant/affected parties;
  • Distribute coordinated work plans, equipment line-ups and other logistical work coordination details;
  • Prepare and update March Charts for Major Outages and shutdowns;
  • Prepare Ad hoc reports and analysis, as required to support planning of work;
  • Retain all reports, correspondence, meeting notes, etc. in accordance with WMATA document retention standards; and
  • Support Manager of Wayside Access and RSA scheduler. Responsibilities may include:
  • Coordinate with CAPD’s scheduling team for the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) update effort. Review and verify IMS RSA Events against RSA schedule;
  • Prepare bi-weekly WWPL Incidents, Trends and Initiatives Report and consolidate incident and trend analysis from engineering performance against planned work and status of major CAPD initiatives;
  • Prepare presentations, reports and memorandums for executives and/or external audiences (e.g. RailSTAT, board presentations);
  • Prepare Ad hoc reports and analysis as required; and
  • Prepare and distribute correspondence, memoranda, action lists, and related material for Manager of Wayside Access and support RSA scheduler.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of five (5) years of construction, engineering related, or rail maintenance experience;
  • Ability to work periodically in the field around operating equipment and field / construction experience, or within a Control Room Environment;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Ability to work across multiple departments and manage conflict;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong organization and proactive communication skills;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365® full suite of applications and Primavera 6® (P6);
  • Ability to evaluate and develop complex schedules;
  • Ability to read and understand WMATA rail service maps, power diagrams and train operations, power switching orders, and power outage tags;
  • Must be highly proficient with Adobe Acrobat® and Visio® to create drawings and maps;
  • Experience with rail construction or maintenance;
  • Familiarity with WMATA standard processes and procedures; and
  • Familiarity with WMATA operations and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or above in construction, construction management or a related engineering field; and
  • Experience with TILOS® scheduling software and Procore®.

Salary Range

$95,000 - $115,000 annually, depending on experience
