M&J is Growing in the DC/MD/VA Region! M&J is expanding its Construction Management and Inspection Services into Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia, and we’re looking for talented professionals to join our team! We currently have a business development office in Rockville, MD, and are actively building our local technical team to support upcoming transportation infrastructure projects. If you have experience in VDOT, MDOT, DDOT, or WMATA construction inspection and management, we want to hear from you!

 

We are seeking multiple highly motivated and detail-oriented Construction Inspectors with 3–6 years of experience to oversee and document construction activities in accordance with contract documents, specifications, and applicable codes. The ideal candidates should have a strong working knowledge of construction practices, materials, and standards, and can independently monitor work for compliance while maintaining clear communication with contractors, engineers, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field inspections of construction work to ensure compliance with project drawings, specifications, building codes, and safety regulations.

  • Monitor and document progress on various phases of construction (e.g., site prep, concrete, structural, utilities, roadways).

  • Review contractor submittals, materials, and workmanship to verify adherence to project standards.

  • Prepare and maintain detailed inspection reports, daily logs, photos, and field notes.

  • Identify, document, and report non-conformances and assist in resolving construction issues.

  • Participate in progress meetings and coordinate with project managers, engineers, and contractors.

  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety protocols.

  • Assist with quantity verification for payment estimates and change order evaluations.

  • Support final inspections, punch lists, and project closeout activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or related field preferred.

  • Experience with VDOT, MDOT, DDOT, or WMATA construction projects preferred.
  • Familiarity with VDOT Road and Bridge specifications and OSHA safety standards.
  • 3–6 years of experience in construction inspection or field engineering roles.

  • Familiarity with construction documents, standards (e.g., ASTM, ACI, AASHTO), and relevant local building codes.

  • Proficiency in inspection documentation and construction management software (e.g., SiteManager, PlanGrid, Bluebeam, MS Office, etc.).

  • Strong understanding of construction safety procedures and best practices.

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.
