M&J is seeking a Construction Inspector who is familiar with standard construction policies, methods, materials, and equipment. This position typically inspects construction work to ensure compliance with building standards and project specifications.  

This position is for a project located in Puerto RicoInterested candidates will need to be located or be willing to relocate to Puerto Rico for the duration of the project.

Responsibilities

  • The Inspector shall function as a construction inspector and technician. This role is considered part of the PE’s staff and receives assignments, guidance, and direction from the PE.
  • The Inspector performs inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials, and all issues concerning the construction of the project.
  • Determines the acceptability of the day‐to‐day work performed by the contractor.
  • The Inspector will review and recommend accepting or rejecting daily reports submitted by the contractor, performs inspection of the contractor’s quality control procedures and material testing and verifies that procedures are in conformance with the approved Quality Control Plan and established procedures.
  • The Inspector must also be able to review material testing procedures and results for conformance to the contract and measures quantities of materials placed.
  • This role may be required to perform sampling and/or in‐place testing of soil, aggregate base, concrete, and asphalt concrete pavement. 
  • There should be experience working on highway construction projects that include full depth reclamation construction, replacing and repairing drainage structures, guardrails installation, concrete work, bridge repairs, traffic sign installation and pavement markings, among others.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned. 

Qualifications

The Construction Inspector shall possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications:

  • NICET Level II or higher, or equivalent state certificate
  • EIT Certificate
  • Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology
  • A minimum of 4 years of increasingly responsible applicable construction engineering experience
